How we work

How Fairhaven Roofing works

The same routine runs on every roof across Tallahassee and the Big Bend: one estimator from the first visit to the last walk-round, everything in writing, and nothing added to the price once you've agreed to it.

  • Every limb that hangs over the roof looked at on the inspection
  • Old plank decking checked and re-nailed, never buried under new shingles
  • A written price, line by line, before anything is signed
  • Demo site by Levelwork

From start to finish

How a re-roof goes, day by day

No guessing about what happens when. This is the order a re-roof follows, from the permit to the last folder of papers.

  1. Before the crew arrives

The permit is filed, the materials are delivered and the dumpster goes where you agreed. The estimator calls the day before with the start time and the forecast.

  2. First day

Tarps go over the beds and shrubs and the tear-off starts. Every board of the deck is checked, soft ones are shown to you and replaced at the price on the estimate, and every slope stripped that day is dried in before the crew leaves.

  3. Middle days

Underlayment, drip edge and new flashing at the walls, chimney and valleys, then the shingles or metal panels. Vents go in where the attic needs them.

  4. Last day

Ridge caps and vents finish the roof. The gutters are cleared of debris, the yard and driveway get a magnet sweep, and you walk the job with the estimator.

  5. After the job

The final inspection is booked and passed, then you get one folder with the closed permit, the photos of every slope and the warranty papers.

What we hold to

Four rules for every roof

  1. Photographs before prices

The estimator photographs every slope and the attic before anyone talks about money, and the photos are yours whatever you decide.

  2. Every part priced on its own line

Tear-off, decking, underlayment, flashing and the permit each get a line on the price, so you can set it beside anyone else's.

  3. The plain answer first

When a repair will hold, you hear that before any replacement price. A new roof is priced only when the roof calls for one.

  4. The house left as we found it

Gutters, beds and driveway are covered while the old roof comes off, and the yard is swept for nails with a magnet every evening.

What we do, and don't

Where our part begins and ends

Your insurer decides a claim and your lender decides a loan. Here is what we take on, and what we leave to them and to you.

Words on the truck

What the licences and programs mean

Words you'll see on roofers' trucks and websites: what each one means for you, and what to ask before you sign.

Florida roofing licence
Roofing work in Florida has to be done under a contractor licensed for it by the state. The licence number belongs on the written estimate and on the permit, and anyone can look it up on the state's licensing website to see that it's active and who holds it.
Re-roof permit and final inspection
A re-roof needs a permit from the city or county building department, which then sends an inspector to check the work. The closed permit is the record that the roof passed, and insurers and future buyers often ask to see it.
Four-point inspection
Many insurers ask for one on an older house before they write or renew a policy. A licensed inspector looks at four things, the roof, the electrical system, the plumbing and the heating and cooling, and fills in a standard form. The roof section records its age, covering and condition.
