Roof Repair in Tallahassee, From Fallen Limbs to Slow Leaks
Repairs in Tallahassee for limb strikes, punctured shingles, leaking valleys full of oak leaves and the chimney flashing that older homes are known for.

Roof repair
Roof repair in Tallahassee often comes down to trees. Oaks, pines and pecans shade the roof, drop debris into the valleys and gutters, rub the shingles where their limbs hang low and sometimes fall on the house in a storm. Add an older roof with tired flashing and the leaks tend to show up in the same handful of places. We find where the water gets in, photograph it, write down the fix and the price, and do that repair. If the roof has more going on than one leak, you hear about it at the same time.
Where older roofs under trees leak
Valleys full of leaves and needles
A valley carries the water from two slopes. When it fills with oak leaves and pine straw, the water backs up, spreads sideways under the shingles and finds the nail holes. The fix is to clear the valley, replace damaged shingles and underlayment, and in some cases change to a metal valley that sheds debris more easily. We’ll also show you which branches feed that valley, because the leaves will be back.
Limb strikes and punctures
A falling limb doesn’t need to be big to crack a shingle or dent a metal panel. Bigger ones can break the deck or a rafter. We check from the roof and from the attic, because a cracked rafter is easy to miss from above, and we photograph the damage before anything is covered or moved.
Chimneys on older homes
Brick chimneys move a little over time and their flashing ages faster than the roof around it. Many have been patched with layers of roof cement that crack and hold water against the brick. A real repair means stripping the old patches, replacing the step and counter flashing, and adding a small cricket on the uphill side of a wide chimney so water and leaves flow around it instead of pooling behind it.
Metal roofs and their fasteners
Screw-down metal is common on porches, outbuildings and rural homes around Quincy and Crawfordville. The panels can last a very long time, but the rubber washers on the screws dry out and crack in the sun, and loose screws let water in at every one. Replacing or resealing fasteners is one of the most useful repairs on a metal roof, and we check the seams and trim at the same visit.
Roof edges, fascia and squirrels
Water that gets behind a missing or damaged drip edge rots the fascia board. Soft fascia is an open door for squirrels, which chew into the attic. We replace rotted fascia, install drip edge and close the gap so the roof edge is sealed again.
Plumbing vents and roof penetrations
The rubber boots around vent pipes crack with age, and older lead flashings can be damaged or chewed. Either one lets water run straight down the pipe. It’s a small repair, and while we’re up there we check every other penetration on the roof.
How a repair visit goes
- We look at the whole roof and the attic, not just the stain on the ceiling. Water often travels before it shows.
- You get photos with notes, showing the source of the leak and anything else worth knowing about.
- You get a written price, one line per repair. If replacement makes more sense, we say so and explain why, and you decide.
- We do the repair, usually on the same visit or the next one. Rotted decking under the problem area is replaced while the roof is open, at the price written on the quote.
- You get after photos, so you can see what you paid for without going up a ladder.
Repair or replace?
We would rather repair a roof that has good years left than sell a new one early. Repair makes sense when the trouble is in one place, the rest of the shingles still hold their granules and the deck is solid. Replacement is worth talking about when leaks keep moving, the shingles are brittle or bare across the roof, or several parts of the deck are soft. If that’s where we land, our roof replacement page explains how a full re-roof runs on an older home.
Tarps and temporary fixes
When water is coming in and the full repair has to wait for dry weather or materials, we tarp the area or make a temporary seal, and photograph the damage first. Those photos matter if you end up filing a claim. If a storm or a falling tree caused the damage, our hurricane damage page covers what happens next, and insurance claim paperwork explains the records we provide.
Keeping the next leak away
A few habits help a roof under trees last. Keep limbs trimmed back from the roof, clean the gutters and valleys in late fall when the oaks finish dropping, and have the roof looked at after any storm that brings down branches in your yard. We’re happy to check a roof once a year and send you photos, so small problems get fixed while they’re still small.

Questions about roof repair
Can you fix just the damaged part of an older roof?
Usually, yes. New shingles won't match a weathered roof exactly, so we look for the closest color and tell you up front how visible the patch will be. On a metal roof we can often replace single panels, trim or fasteners. Under Florida's building code, a large repair on an older roof can mean bringing that whole roof section up to current code, and we check for that before we quote.
Do you charge to find a leak?
No. The visit, the inspection and the photos cost nothing. You pay for the repair at the price we write down before we start.
How quickly can you get here?
On an ordinary week we can usually look at a leak within a couple of working days. After a big storm everyone calls at once, so we'll give you an honest wait and tarp the opening in the meantime if water is coming in.
Is it worth repairing a roof that's near the end of its life?
Sometimes, if it buys you a season or two and you're planning ahead. We'll tell you plainly whether a repair is a lasting fix or a holding job, and write it on the quote the same way.
